Computer Technology

Mrs. Vatthauer is the Assistant Technology Coordinator and teaches French, Multi-Media Design and Computer 8.  She has been teaching since 1983 and has been at Lafayette High School since 1997.  Mrs. Vatthauer LOVES to cook, walk (especially with her Golden Retriever), bike, have coffee with friends, travel and spend quality time with family and friends.  She is married and has 3 step-children, a dog and a cat.

Mrs. Vatthauer graduated from Backus High School before attending St. Cloud State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in French Education.  She received a FLES certification from Concordia, Moorhead; a Masters of Arts in Education and Curriculum Instruction from the University of St. Thomas; and Certification in K-12 Keyboarding and 7-12 Computer Applications from the University of Winona.  Prior to finding her "Dream Job" in Red Lake Falls she taught in Crookston, Brainerd, River Falls, WI and Cheyenne, WY. 

If she could meet one famous person it would be chef Paul Bocuse.  Her Junior High (Fred Moore Junior High in Anoka, MN) French Teacher, Mme Cushing, inspired her to become a French teacher.

Web Page Design:

 This course provides an overview of creating FrontPage Webs. Microsoft Front Page 2003 and Photoshop Elements 7 will be used to maintain the school's website.  Web design criteria, FrontPage templates, the FrontPage Editor, inserting tables, images, and photographic images onto Web pages, applying special formatting features, assigning URLs to image map hotspots, creating thumbnail images, creating forms in a Web page, and creating frames Web pages in Front Page.  Students will learn how to use Photoshop Elements 7 to edit pictures and format them for web publication.  Students will also have an opportunity to work on i-Macs and will make a number of short video productions.  Currently taught by Mrs. Vatthauer

7th Grade Keyboarding

Keyboarding is a beginning course for persons with little or no previous keyboarding instruction.  Students will be introduced to the computer keyboard and in using proper home row positioning of the fingers.  They will develop the proper techniques for attaining useful levels of speed and accuracy.  You will be introduced to various letter styles and be able to use the proper layout for each.  You will also be able to type one and two page reports using proper page layout.  Currently taught by Ms. Miller

8th Grade Keyboarding

This semester-long keyboarding course is designed for students to brush up and become faster and better at their keyboarding skills, (previously learned in the 7th grade course).  Students will work on a variety of letter styles, one and two page reports, working with tables, and tab markings.  Students will use Google Docs to complete most of the assignments for the class.  The final 6 weeks of this class will focus on creating music videos using Windows Movie Maker.  Currently taught by Mrs. Vatthauer
